Confidence

October 1, 2023

I have chosen a word for the month of October. If you practice yoga or meditation you know you are often asked at the beginning of class to think of a word to focus on during your session. This morning during my practice I decided to choose a word for the entire month. I chose confidence.

The word confidence can take on different meanings depending on how it is used. I want to grow and strengthen my confidence in four ways.

  1. I want to be confident in my trust that there is plan for me. That the universe is conspiring to make it happen. I only have to pay attention to the opportunities to learn and grow that are before me.

  2. I want to be confident in my intelligence, strength, heart and ability to meet any challenge with grace and humility. I want to be confident that successes and stumbles are equally important in my growth.

  3. I want to demonstrate and model confidence to those around me, inspiring others to believe in themselves and me.

  4. I want to confide my strengths and weaknesses with no guilt or shame.

I believe as a child I was full of confidence and trust in not only myself but others. Over time I believe that began to slowly diminished by the challenges and stumbles which occur in life. I do not believe I am alone in this, but if I am, I am ok with that. I recently ran across a picture of a fearless me. The seven year old me. She thought she could swing to the top of the trees, swim in the Olympics and never met a stranger. I am confident that she is still in me. I want to connect with that side of me. The joyful, confident kid in me deserves a seat at the table.

What part of you have you tucked away? What would your word be?
